Hi. I have a Nissan Pixo, 2010 1 Litre petrol model. I have had it since new and its in good order, it does about 5,000 miles per year, has not had any accidents and is serviced annually. The engine often cuts out when you are driving. This used to only happen occasionally but is now becoming a major safety issue due to its regularity as the power steering always cuts out when the engine cuts out. It cuts out mostly when you brake shortly after starting a journey i.e. there is a mini roundabout near the end of my road and it will always cut out as I brake at the approach. You then have no power steering and engine while going round the roundabout; mega unsafe. I know that if I push both the gas and brake pedals together on approach it will not cut out. When it cuts out you have to turn the ignition key off and then restart the car while driving. It does cut out after you have been driving for some time (and engine warmed up) while waiting at a set of traffic lights; this is when its not dangerous. And no the car does not have stop start technology. I have tried the obvious of giving the battery a charge overnight and using the car immediately upon removing the charger but its still the same. Any ideas as I took it to the Nissan dealer and they could not solve it!!!!
When you turn the ignition key after it has cut out does it restart first turn of the key ?. Usually a if the crank sensor is dodgy it takes a few turns of the key to restart the car.
Sounds like a throttle body ( as yours could be, granny ) fault, there as been similar problems with certain Nissan Micra's ( same engine ). Apparently it's down to some dry joints on the throttle body circuit board, an auto electrician would probably re solder the joints.
