I have just acquired a Renault Megane Scenic, whilst checking the lights I noticed that the passenger side rear fog light was not working, whilst checking in the drivers handbook for the bulb size I came across this statement "Both rear fog lights are fitted with bulbs only the drivers side works".

Could anyone explain to me why before I go to Renault dealership for an explanation.

Many thanks

The other side will work on LHD cars.
Volvo work on the same principle, their argument being that having only one fog-light illuminated removes any confusion between fog-lights and brake lights - a very silly argument, in my opinion. If you have 2 fog-lights and 3 brake lights, how camn there be confusion? Also, if you have i fog-light and the bulb fails, how many lights are working?
With my previous Volvo I bought a left-hand drive rear light cluster to solve the problem - not cheap but effective if it worries you.
Yes it's so they don't have to make two models of rear fog light for right hand and left hand drive cars. It is normal to only have a rear fog light on the drivers side. All my last 5 cars have had only a drivers side rear fog lamp,2 Volvos, a Subaru & 2 Vauxhalls.
