Advisories On Mot

Hi. I bought a 3 yr old car from Jennings 8days ago. I didn't realise they hadn't given me the MOT print out. I've emailed and telephoned but haven't received any update yet. After checking online I now find there are 3 advisories on the MOT. They didn't tell me about these. Can I do anything?

They are advisories, if they were serious the car would have failed, but on saying that, they should have handed you the MOT, I would have a word with the Seller.

Thanks for the help. They will need fixing. However I will be complaining to Jennings as I was never told about the advisories and was never given the MOT print. It's only because I noticed the tyres looked abit rough that I checked it online myself. If I hadn't I could have been driving for months not realising anything needed fixing.

Bonnie, If the MOT Station failed to book these Advisories & the car was stopped 10>>15 Mins outside by a MOT Inspector, taken back to the same MOT Station & the advisories found by the Inspector, the garage Could loose his / her Licence to Test.

As a norm on the first MOT the car usally goes through no prob, what was the Advisories?

Bonnie, I hope you check your tyre condition more frequently than the 'months' you mention.

I had a car that passed the MOT but with an advisory that the brake pipes needed replacing before the next MOT due to corrosion. I didn't get them done as I knew they were stainless steel that does not corrode.
It passed the next 3 MOT's, same garage, without even a mention of the brake pipes.
Most 'advisories' are just the MOT shop 'fishing' for business !

I forgot to screenshot it but one of them was I think to do with the condition of the rear tyres. I'm just really disappointed that my new car isn't as great as I thought it was.
Derek - I have always maintained my cars and always get them checked outbid there is anything I have noticed. I do check tyres hence noticing the rear tyres looked like they'd need replacing very soon. Not good when I've just bought it off a reputable car dealer.

When you say the condition of the rear tyres do you mean the tread depth ?.

Once you've assessed the three advisories, I can't see why you shouldn't approach the dealer - have a figure of recompense in mind.

Stress that it is more the disappointment you wren't made aware of this at the point of sale, then you could have declined to purchase or asked for a reduction.

I was thinking the tread looked low but also the condition. I just assumed it was because I had driven through muddy puddles. I've emailed Jennings asking them to look into it. Thanks for your help

You obviously had a Warrantee with the car? check the details, does it say anything that the car will be fully checked / serviced before collection by yourself? If the paperwork confirms that they will, state this when you speak to them, if they do not honour their warrantee I would advise them that you will be contacting Trading Standards.

Thanks for all the advice. I've spoken with them. They only got the MOT print today so weren't aware of the advisories. As a gesture of goodwill they'll sort them out. It's a lesson learned - next time I won't be so nieve
