The most likely reason is that the antenna isn't connected.

Use the up/down tuning buttons to go to the relevant frequency. (Ask here if you need frequency information, remembering to tell us the town you live in).

Press a memory button and hold it until you hear a beep. The station will then have been stored in the relevant memory location.
