My ignorance of all things mechanical knows no bounds.

It's a nice day where I am so quite fancy a run on my bike, but the battery is flat.

I live in a bowl so can't bump it (it's uphill either side of my house), so can i jump start it from my car?

Or should I just forget about today, put the bike battery on charge and hope it's nice tomorrow?

Assuming it's a modern 12v battery on your bike yes you can jump it from a car, no problem. I use one of these when things are flat, wonderful bit of kit: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4-USB-80000mAh-Car-Jump-Starter-Portable-Booster-Battery-Charger-Power-Bank-SOS/282789273448?hash=item41d78ddf68:g:HAAAAOSwy0JaRhsE
Your car will be 12 volts, so if the battery on the bike is the same, you can use it with suitable leads to start the bike

Brilliant, thanks.
TTT; I was about to suggest buying one of those, I have one, but I only seem to use it for starting neighbours cars!
mine will start a 3.5litre lexus or any of the bikes, It does struggle with the 6ltr Beemer though! Very useful and it fits in a pocket.
what bike have you got DD?

MV Brutale 1078rr.

Also have an old (2001) Ducati 900ie Supersport which has been mothballed and cossetted as they're starting to become very rare. Can't remember the last time I saw one on the road.
Talking about flat batteries and starting, why did they ever get rid of starting handles on cars, could it be that they didn't just look nice or because they decided to use transverse engines?
Nice DD, I'm thinking about I'm getting Diavel but I'm concerned about "character" - ie reliability! so the stable is all Jap at the mo.

I don't think that's such an issue nowadays TTT. My very first 'proper' bike was a 600 monster and that wasn't hugely reliable but that was of the first ones. Never had any problem with the 900 (also used to have a Multistrada and that was fine as well).

The Diavel has got one of the best looking backsides on the road in my opinion. Massive rear tyre - looks great.
A bit namby pamby having a starter on a bike.

What was wrong with the old kick starters?
Yeah, I suppose a one litre might need Geoff Capes jumping on the lever.
