Correct Engine Code For My Car Ford

I am trying to buy and cam belt kit and water pump for my car manufactured by Gates. But I need the correct 4 digit engine code. I have looked at car and have no idea where to find the code. I have the VIN number but I can't seemed to get a code out of that. Going to Gates website or others I get two options depending in this code. I have searched for info about VIN code despite it says the code is in this I can not make head nor tail of it.

Have a look at your V5 And look under ' Variant'.

And thank you Tony that has given me what I was looking for. I had looked at my log book but couldn't see anything with regard to engine apart from capacity.
