I'll print out the link and show it to her and try and persuade her to get it checked, as she's adamant that it's an unconverted natural gas cooker running on LPG.

It will probably work, but not very well, and with the safety hazards mentioned.
I did have this problem in a new house. The gas jets (or one of them - can't recall) used to roar and would blow out if turned down low.
It took several visits for the engineer (under warranty thankfully) to work out that the installers had forgotten to change the jet(s) to LPG ones
