I have just bought an Escort, which has central Locking. The key looks like something is missig, and Im thinking that it could be the remote part, to open/lock the car from the remote? Does anyone know if this model - 1996 P Reg - had remote locking, and if so, can i but the remote key and program it myself, without having to use Ford's costly service!

Any help would be gratefully received!

Many thanks!

On most fords from the late eighties to mid ninetys there was a torch built in to the key. If the battery compartment has been taken off it will look like something is missing. Is there a big hollow space with an oval cut out on part of the remaining plastic?

Hi there, yes, there's an oval cut out on the front, and a space missing on the back, circular, where it looks like another part of a key should slot in...

its part of the torch then - look where the stem of the key is and you will see the bulb - if you desperately need a torch on your key then they are fairly easy to get hold of.

Thanks for your help! Althought there's no bulb or even a place for a bulb...?
