Hi

I've just replaced the reversing light switch on the gearbox and topped up the gearbox with oil.

The reversing light now works ok, but I cant engage reverse gear.!

Any idea?

only a guess from me, but you may need to re-adjust the switch. also take the filler plug back out and make sure you didnt overfill the box. leave the car on flat ground and wait till the oil stops running from the gearbox before replacing the plug.

If you lived where I do you would be lost without the reversing lights, we don't all drive in city streets with good lighting at nights.

Re the switch, try taking it out again and see if you can engage reverse, if yes then you probably screwed the switch too far in, Engage reverse and then try inserting the switch until the reverse lights just come on and then fix it there. now try the reverse select again.

having a reverse light is an m.o.t. requirement if they are fitted!

law states, if its fitted it must be in working condition...

lol too much gear box oil, jst let it drip out close the cap and let the engine run, use to happen to my car wen the engine heats up ur gear will start rolling like normal again. hope this helped
