idle problem

my escort gti is a R reg 98 model and has a slight erratic problem on tick over any ideas.....where is the idle speed control valve located on my engine??

on the inlet manifold short cyl unit silver in colour with one multiplug on top and 2 bolt fixing
ive an 1.8 lx escort and mine is on the back of the engine (fairly central) the only way to get to it was if the car was on a lift its got 2 bolts holding it on plus a multiplug connector. you'll need to get a torch to see it. take it off and clean it out with a good carb cleaner its probably full of carbon the spring probably aint working. hope this helps

On tick over the automatic choke should be idling it perfectly try adjusting the srew on the soliniod
