Can anyone explain why the wipers on the 5 series always seem to make a juddering/squeaky noise in light rain yet the 3 series wipers seem perfectly OK? I've had this problem on 5 series before - is there a remedy?

I hope this does not sound rude but in the past I have noticed that the more you pay for wiper blades the better they are, you can actually get judder free blades, have you checked out the new all rubber wipers (Bosch Aerotwin) I have fixed them to my car and they seem a lot better than the traditional wipers, also make sure that the window is cleaned very very well and often this will also help.
Had 5's, 3's and X5's and never had a problem - always gone to the dealer for a windscreen wiper though and they seem to be the best my mates rib me for it - but I know I'm getting the right one for the job.

As kjn 2 says though - the more you pay the better the blade. Try also cleaning the screen with a good glass cleaner - then fitting the blades - it might just make all the difference.
All of the above but also try lifting the wiper blades off the screen, putting some washing up liquid on a cloth and run up the rubber blades. This removes the road film/grease that normally causes the juddering
