Just passed my test. Not allowed to driver anyone - until i've clocked up 6000 miles. Is this fair ?

Passed test on Saturday.

Mum won't let my carry passengers - excluding family, until i've clocked up 6000 miles.

Is this fair ?

In this part of N.Yorks quite a few newly qualified drivers have killed themselves and taken many friends with them.

Your mum has been reading the reports the government has been dreaming up about putting that sort of restriction on new drivers.

If she is worried for the safety of other people has she taken her advanced drivers test or is she a hypocrite?

If it's his Mums car and she pays for it all including insurance - I'm sure it's her prerogative. She's being very sensible about it all.

It doesn't matter if you are 20yrs old or 30 years old - your driving experience is very short and limited. Often you here of people cramming their cars full of people, the car behaving differently due to the weight (and also the driver showing off) and terrible consequences. It seems like a very good idea, very cautious - but I don't think we can be too cautious when you consider a car as a killing machine.

If he/she goes out and buys a car and insurers it and taxes it etc, then obviously he/she can do what they want as his/her mother cannot stop them.

If it is your car and you have a legal licence you can do what you want.

However, your Mum is right to be worried as it is well documented that young drivers can be at a greater risk of accidents when they have passengers. There is always a peer pressure to demonstrate your skills and drive just that little bit too fast. Your Mum has good advice.

If your mum is financing your car then you are very lucky, just do what she says!

this really is a nanny culture! you've passed your test, drive sensibly and when carrying passengers remember it's not the tardis, don't overload your car, don't let passengers entice you into doing anything dangerous or stupid. be responsible, you are driving a loaded gun
