the van is mechanicly sound but just a bit sluggish for pulling out of junctions and hills, any advice on how to get that bit more oomph out of it??

Sell it and buy a turbo equivelant.

I read in the Times a while back about someone that wanted to turbo a Renault van. The outcome was that it would be more costly to turbo it than it would to just sell it and buy a turbo van.

yes but was the renault van as popular as an escort?what i want to know is how hard would it be to do myself?iv had a quote from a specilist garrage for 350 but im stingy, i dont want to buy a differnt van because i know how this has been treated nearly all its life
on the accelrater cable you can take excess play out to give you more revs
Cant be done. A non turbo engine has a higher compression ratio than a turbo engine. Fitting a turbo will blow it to bits. Also turbo pistons get hotter than non turbo so the turbo is fitted with oil cooling jets to cool pistons The injection timing is also different. Its all very well fitting a turbo but what about the above problems. If a specialist is fitting and suplying a turbo for 350 he is not doing the job correctly. Buy another van.
