My daughter has just bought her first car and was told that it has a catalytic converter , the car is a corsa 1996 1.2ltr how do I know if it is installed?

Since January 1993, all new petrol-driven cars sold in the European Union (EU) have been fitted with a catalytic converter (CAT).

It is installed in a stainless steel "box" between the manifold and first silencer box.

Both right,
You can recognise a 'cat' from the corrugated pattern to the casing. As Danny said, after 1993, all cars had to have them.
