stalling escort 1.3

Hi I have ann escort 1.3 carb model with a manual choke.It runs for about 1 mile than acts like it is running out of petrol and stalls if I wait for a couple of minutes it restarts and runs a bit further and the whole cycle starts again.I thought it might have been a choked fuel filter or dirty petrol but I cant even find a fuel filter on the car .Any ideas would be appreciated

it could be a blocked fuel filter as you have suggested, it could also be a dirty carb, the nozzles in it may be semi blocked

it could also be your fuel pump, you could have either a manual pump or an electric one i cant remember which one yours has, probably manual

One other thing to look at: Check that your fuel tank breather is clear- next time it happens, whip the fuel cap off and see if there's an inrush of air and the car starts more or less straight away.
