I am currently experiencing acceleration problems. When Pulling off, gaining speed is a real problem.

Even when accelerating hard the car does not gain much speed, the lower gears seem to be affected most by this.

I had a similar problem a few weeks ago. I have recently changed the spark plugs and the car was running fine until the other day

I am intending to take the car to a garage but dont want to be ripped off so I would really appreciate some advice as to what the problem could be?

Thanks in advance

Try putting the car in 4th whilst moving and accelerate, if the revs go up but the car doesn't speed up it could be the clutch is slipping.

Thanks Si, the revs do go up and it doesnt really speed up at all. Does this mean my clutch has gone or is it less severe (in terms of cost)?
If clutch is hydraulic which i think it is it would cost 166.26 + vat locally ( Yorkshire) but that is assuming you dont replace the concentric bearing.
yes,it does sound like your clutch is slipping,or maybe a hole in the exhaust, would also cause you to lose power, but i think the clutch is your problem.
