ford mondeo mk3 new shape cam belt or chain?
10 Answers
i have just bought a ford mondeo x reg tddi mark 3 new shape, i rang some diesel service garages near me to ask about servicing, i asked about cam belt changing and have been told by 2 out of 3 the car has no belt, it runs on chains. needless to say the third one quoted a belt change at just short of 500
is this true about no belt?, can anyone help, i was told there is no belt just the chain and it lasts years and cant be changed. i seem to remember the older ford engines use to be made this way.
many thanks

There has only ever been a 1.8 or 2.0 diesel on the mondeo.
Is your car a TDi or a TDCi - Also Mk3 mondeo is the 2007 model. Mk 2 came out in 2000 so I assume that you have a Mk 2 (Mk1 ran from 1993 to 2000 but had a facelift in 1997)
Most 1.8 diesel mondeos have a cam belt - that is replaced at 100000 miles. The 2.0 duratorq has a cam chain and that was the standard diesel engine on the Mk2 mondeo. So if you have a Mk2 2.0 mondeo then you have a chain, the best people to check this with is your local ford dealership if you are unsure

Tonisok - how about reading the answer from twazerk - it states "The old 1.6 diesel had no cambelt" - That is why I pointed out there has never been a 1.6 diesel mondeo.
That is why I pointed out the error in the other answer before answering more fully. So before you start to criticise my answer - read the question and the answers fully.

hi sorry for any miss understandings about the last bit that ford engines may have been made this way, all i meant was older engines were made with a chain i seem to reclall,
I Did not mean ford made a mondeo 1.6 diesel for the mondeo, i just meant that older ford engines were made with a chain on diesel engines i think but not sure.
The car i have is a new shape mark 3, x reg 2001 2.0 litre turbo diesel (TDI not tdci).
many thanks for all and any answers
