recently purchased a c class merc yr 2k on an x plate but unfortunately only came with one key was thinking of buying one from ebay but hearing conflicting stories about weather they can be coded to suit my car as dealers charge @200 quid for replacement can they be coded independently from the merc dealer any advice welcomed.

The ones on ebay cannot be re coded for renaults even though a lot are sold, could be the same with yours, be careful.
