traffic offence?
2 Answers
I was charged with the police for going through a red light.
I crossed a level croosing and was the last car to cross over when the light changed, as it was a level crossing the cars in front were going slow going over the railway tracks, as i got over i looked to see the traffic had not started to move from my right hand side as i was turning left. As i continued to drive a traffic police car stopped me after 20/30 yards. They must have been on the other side from where i crossed.
I explained that the traffic in front was slow, i cant overtake, i cant turn back, i also checked that the traffic had not started to move form the other side before procedding. The officer told me i acn have my day in court if is contest this. i have been issued with 60 fine and 3 points.
How can i be charged with going through a red light when it is not possible for the police to see me from the other side of the crossing. if i contest this what do i need to do and what am i looking at if i fail contesting this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Before you proceed onto a level crossing, you must make sure your exit it clear, even if that means letting the car in front of you go and then leave enough space for you before you even start. I live right by a level crossing and you would be amazed at the amount of people who get stuck on the lines because the traffic in front isn't moving - luckily for them, there isn't usually traffic police around!
anyway, if they were on the other side of the crossing and you were on the crossing when they could see the lights were red (from their side) surely this would be enough to make a case for having crossedd on a red light? When you say red light do you mean level crossing lights? if so, weren't you alreted by an amber light first?
