Take it to a garage - I think that opening it on your own may be beyond you..
Otherwise make sure that the cable that connects to the "liver" has not broken or stretched. You may be able to pull it with pliers and release the bonnet.
Otherwise use a narrow object to release the bonnet catch (but be careful of your paintwork)

if the lever that you pull down is slack then the cable has stretched /come off at either the bonnet catch end or the lever end, as described above , you can pull it with pliers to open it , OR it could just be that the bonnet has not been opened for ages and it is stiff, a trick is to pull the lever fully whilst someone pulls the bonnet open for you , Give it a good dose of wd40 when you do have it open , may save you time next time you want to open it ...best of luck , ( a friendly garage would do it for you if you are not confident enough or have you tried a maiden in distress call to a friendly neighbour?? flash those eye lashes ...lol) )
