clio key wont work

The clios year of make is 2000 and the engine wont turnover. A mechanic said I needed a new key. Renault said they want �145 !!!!!! for a new key. Is there anything I can try before I fork out for a new key.

It was for a Nissan and was quoted as �95, which for a van I thought ridiculous. I had it cut anyway and then managed to put the new key blade into the old holder/bleeper/chip holder. Worked a charm. I don't understand why a Clio key should be so expensive. Perhaps you could look online for an alternative supplier?
In your book is a code and how to work it. It disarms the immobiliser as my step dad and my friends mom had this problem. Follow the procedure and if it doesn't work go to reno. Being 2000 model they can tell you the code. Order a key put leave no money else they wont give you the code for your car. Get home and start car. Phone reno and cancel key order this is what we did and your key still works as all you have done is disarmed the electronics in the key.
