Vauxhall astra
5 Answers
i have got a vauxhall astra 1.4 16v 2001 plate. Its been in the garage numerous times since the engine light came on and no one can seen to find what the problem is. The diagnostic said that it had a misfire and the mechanic changed the coil pack and the spark plugs, two weeks later it happened AGAIN, so he thought it might just be a faulty coil pack so he changed it but the problem was still there. since then other mechanics have looked at it and said the same thing. The light stays on all the time and the performance of my car has got worse, its lost alot of power and when i accelerate the engine lights flashes. My engine used to be very quiet and its ticking over louder. Im sick of spending money on it and i need an answer to the problem if any one can help me PLEASE!

did the mechanic check the h.t. leads when he changed the spark plugs and coil pack.a h.t. lead that is breaking down will produce the same symtoms that you discribe. if it turns out to be a dodgy h.t. lead there was no need for new spark plugs or new coil pack just a replacment of the dodgy h.t. lead.

I know its not the same car but, my sister has got a w reg pug 206, she had a similar problem and after revisiting the garage after 6 months it turned out to be that the E.C.U couldn't cope with all of the changes i.e. newer coil packs, spark plugs etc.
Again I know its a different car but its worth asking the question. Can be expensive though!!!

We had the same problems with our Astra, I was driving down the duel carridge way and from 80ph the car cut down to 20mph, the warning light was already showing, and when i put my foot down the engine managment ight started flashing. I took it to the garage and the battery needed replacing this was sending the faults to the engine managment system, showing misfires. I dont no if this is te same for you but i hope you get it sorted.x
Our astra has the same problem its a 51 plate been in to be fixed lots of times coil pack changed twice erg valve changed our mechanic is going mad,the latest thing he tried was he took the cylinder head off and cleaned out the valves and flushed out the engine, but in slow traffic it now drives like it has kangaroo petrol and cuts out now and again.I hope part of the answer might help and someone might have an answer to help me.The light is of at the moment !!!!! I am sick of spending money on it as well so i hope someone can help us both
