Heavy Steering - Picasso

On 2 occasions over the past week, whilst driving between 25-30 mph my steering wheel suddenly became very, very hard to turn. Only just managing to pull over safely. There wasn't any loud noises to speak of, but the battery and oil light came on, although they seem to be ok. Does anybody have any ides what the problem is?

If the oil and battery lights were on then the engine had stalled and the steering will be heavy as the PAS pump is engine driven, this is the fault, the symptom you notice is the steering is heavy, take it to a reputable garage or diagnostic specalist to get it looked at
