MOT requirements

With an MOT due on my car in about four weeks, I would be interested to know if a list of items to be checked is available on the net. Additionally, can anyone tell me if my shock absorbers should concern me because the rubber joints grunt a little when driving over humps,for example. Some time back, my local garage spayed silcone over them and the problem was cured for about a couple of months but has returned, would another spray of silcone get it through the MOT? With all due respect, do you want the noise to go to pass the mot or do you want to be sure they are safe?
MOT's are there to ensure a vehicle is roadworthy and on a personal note, I've found a garage that only does MOT's, (not the repair) and goes through my car with a fine tooth comb. It gives me piece of mind when I take my grandkids out for rides.

squeaky bushes/mounts are not failure , just knocking ,worn or perished ones...

If you spray any sort of lubricant on the shock absorbers the tester is going to presume your shocks are leaking and fail it.

Thank you all for your very comprehensive repies.
I take your point wakeover and I fully understand that the car must be roadworthy for safety sake. However, my car runs in all respects like new and if the shock absorbers have to be changed, so be it. The point I'm making is that on normal roads, there is no noise from them at al land they seem to do their job perfectly, only a small amount of noise over speed humps.
