Help! Ford Focus Central Locking Seized

Please can ayone help. Son's just rung, central locking has seized, not making any noise when he tries to use key manually. He's been told he should be able to get into the boot which he hadn't thought of so he's on his way back to car. Can anyone suggest what the cause might be please, I'd be really grateful. Thankyou

Update! Hes got in through boot, battery was flat, car wouldn't start so he's jump started it, given it a run up the motorway and seems to be okay now. He doesn't know whats flattened the battery which is a bit worrying. Don't know anything about cars but I would've thought he'd still be able to open the doors manually even with a flat battery.
if its deadlocked a flat battery might be an issue...

Thanks chas, cars behaved itself since so now the mystery is why the battery was flat, bit a worry.
