do you lock yours? I often forget, but usually remember when I get to an iffy area.

my last car manual said the locks popped open if there was an accident (quite impressive!) but the current car's manual doesn't mention it.

what are your opinions or safety tips?

I always lock all doors everywhere Im afraid - well I do come from Glasgow originally
I lock mine if travelling slowly through a town late at night or when with the kids alone. But once i reach speed i unlock them again.

many cars lock the doors automatically just after moving off.
I've occasionally forgotten to lock my car doors, but my car park is private so it's not such a big deal. I've nothing in my car to steal anyway LOL.

My car is a cow of a thing for locking me out,

Ie if I go out and start the engine, then shut the door and go back into the house for something, I'm locked out, when I get back to the car,

Some thing to do with anti car jacking.
Bloody inconvenient though, sometimes.
I lock the doors when i am driving in the nighttime, next week we are open til midnight 2 nights and i will be driving home between then and 1am and i am not looking forward to it!
That's a good point, Leg. You never know what some idiot is going to copy from a movie they've seen.
I just LIVE on red alert no joking, no wonder Im thin.
Hi sara , car owners always lock their cars in this area , there are too many car thefts and break-ins . You also have to make sure they're locked at traffic lights too .
Hello Lakitu , haven't seen you to speak to for a while hun .

so, do you think if (god forbid) you had a terrible accident, the fact that your door is unlocked will get you out quicker? I assumed that doors may jam, and I wouldn't mind if a fireman/policeman/passer-by smashed the window in the circumstances..
gawd I think more about crime than an accident im afraid

Leg, I agree. I often see women on their own in cars, and it would be so easy for someone to jump in the back.
Mine lock automatically which was a bit disconcerting to start with. now I dont even notice it though i am glad it does cause I am not sure that my reactions would be fast enough if it was needed.

It does make you wonder though whether we are all a bit too paranoid.
I don't lock my door while driving for that reason, however, I was in a car accident last summer, the damage to my car was full frontal.

I passed out for no more than 10 second, when I came round I was really confused, wondering what the smell was (air bag I found out) and I couldn't get out of the car because the wings had shunted up and blocked my exit on both sides. I put down the window and slithered out that way. What a sight I must have been! LOL
I don't drive but often used to lock all the doors if we were parked somewhere and I was in the car on my own like in a service station car park.

There are a lot of people round here who come out on main roads near traffic lights to wash your windows to try and get money so would always lock doors and shut windows then just in case.
Ha haaa!

I always lock my car doors, after all I live in a real bad area!

Only the other week, some toe rag tried to bend the door back to get into the car!!!
Lakitu that mustve been scary
Question Author
Lakitu, that's scary! I guess it wouldn't have made any difference if your doors were locked or unlocked then?

Jen, would you ask your driving instructor what he/she would advise please?

A friend of mine nearly got carjacked when she was leaving work one day.

She had a posh 4x4 thing and it appears these guys were waiting for her to come out and open it up.
