A friend has a Renault and a warning has been displayed saying the oil needs topping up. The specification is for semi synthetic oil (5W40SemiSynthetic) which he is unable to obtain except from a Renault dealer - at a price!!
Would any other multi grade be ok?

Thanks hughjass, that is what I thought.
I have a Renault Laguna and requires the same oil. I bought the oil in Halfords - their own brand.
