Hi guys,

My wife and I bought a new car on saturday and we have another few months left on the tax from the old car. The guy at the place we bought the car told us how to change it from the old car to the new one but he "wasn't supposed to tell" my wife. She didn't understand what he said.

Can anyone shed some light??

Many thanks

yes, you can't do it..it's illegal!

you can get a refund on the full remaining months of your tax disc, but you can't transfer it to another vehicle.
Hi, if you decide to do as sara says make sure that you photocopy it before you send it off to DVLA. My son sent his off after buying a new car. He had 9 months remaining on his old one so he got the form from the post office, filled it in and sent it with the Tax Disc to DVLA. A few weeks later they sent back to him saying he couldn't get his money back as he hadn't sent in the right form, which he had by the way and that they couldn't send the disc back for security reasons and that they have now destroyed it but if he wanted to appeal against it to apply again and they would look at it. To appeal he needed the disc which they had destroyed so he couldn't do anything about it. Without the disc they will not do anything and it's no good phoning as they don't want to know. So be on the safe side and get a copy. Good luck.
As already been said but to add, make sure you send the disk in a week before the end of the month.
