Window Tinting

Which Windows can legally be tinted and, to what percentage can they be tinted, i know the windsecreen cannot be tinted but can the front windows and rear window?

Since 2004, as per the Road Vehicles (Construction & Use) Regulations, the prescribed visible light transmission level for windows forward of the ‘B’ Post are as follows;

Motor Vehicles first used before 1 April 1985:
The windscreen and front side windows must allow at least 70% of light to be transmitted through them.

Motor Vehicles first used on or after 1 April 1985:
The light transmitted through the windscreen must be at least 75%.
The front side windows must allow at least 70% of light to be transmitted through them.

ABerrant is absolutely correct,although I knew this I have just had mine done and the chap who did it went through the legal requirements with me.

the best thing to do is just have the rear windows of the car done.
there are no legal tints on the market that are faint enough to pass the 70% light transmission test.
lightest you can actually get is 63% which is still 7% under the legal requirement.

i just have the back done on my car and i know ts legal, i already been pulled for them on previous cars on front windows.
be warned though tint places will tell you its legal on the front which is infact a big LIE
