FORD KA WARNING LIGHT AND SPEEDO NOT WORKING-ANY IDEAS?

The engine warning light is showing on my ford KA (usually this should go off after ignition has been on a few seconds).....also my speedometer is not working at all........The car seems to be fine i can see no difference.....so i dont want to be taken for a mug just because im female...its due an MOT at the end of feb anyhoo but does anyone have any idea if this sounds as though it may be that some fuses need replacing rather than a more serious problem?........would really appreciate anyones thoughts......

Sorry, but fuses wont cure these issues, the warning light is it the charging or managment light ? red or orange (i believe) ??

Its the management light...also the car is now much easier to stall and now and then the power steering is getting very heavy, the battery warning light goes on and the cars comes to a halt......not sounding good is it !!!

Hi kinks,

Sounds like an engine management fault somewhere, and as such i would'nt drive it far, if at all, until you get it looked at.

I would suggest you put it in to your mechanic or a local garage, for a Diagonostics check, where they will check why the light is coming on. If any fault on it, it should come up on there and then you'll know where you stand.

Shop around for a garage that may be able to offer you a free one, on the premise that they will carry out the works on the car to repair it...........some do offer this service.......and it would save you between £50-75 too.

the management light is telling you there is a fault which is affecting the engine performance.
Could be something simple like a sensor breaking down only way to find out is with a diagnostic kit..doesnt need to be a Ford main dealer a majority of garages carry this equipment now , they couldnt work without it.

Just a thought, it could be the speed sensor in the gearbox, hence why the speedo isnt working, this sensor also feeds information to the ECU to control the running of the engine. Not certain on KAs but its quite a common problem on the Focus & one of the symptons is poor running .

Thanks for your help guys it sounds as if it is the electrical sensor from what the garage have said....only got it in today -been naughty driving it since but i do abt 120 miles a day and cant do without it-pain that it is......thanks yogi and chas........really must make an effort to be careful with it ive tended not to be careful with her (cart is called davina)
