after having a run of bad luck with cars, it seemed i had at last found a good one----mother in law payed --bless her x--
pay about a thousand pounds she said and you should get a semi decent car that will last about a year!!
wow!!!!!!what a gift.................
sorry im rambling not slept im too worried!!

to get to the point.

had it two weeks ---washed it twice-- i love this car ----
went out yesterday (50 mile round trip) to my friends.

the diesel light was on all the way home----
and alot of luck and prayers got me home without being stranded!!
right outside my house ---- i thanked my little car and apologised for running the fuel so low, get paid tuesdays!!!
my sister borrowed me 5 pounds so i jumped in my little car to head straight to the petrol station (250 yards away)
car wouldnt start (no coil light i noticed as well, and i assumed the engine was still warm)

no problem---got my petrol can walked up to petrol station and put £3.50 worth of diesel in my can and returned to my car
still wont start!!!! no coil light, read all the manual, my mum in law is gonna think im a waste of space !!!!!
im considering running away from home!!!

know nowt about cars, so my advice would br to take it to a garage or call out aa if you are a member. you mil sounds ferocious! possibly as bad as mine, so i sympathise...good luck! x
give her the keys back, apologise for breaking it, but explain that if you cant afford to put diesel in it then a free car really isnt worth having.
What are you dreaming of .. running for fifty miles with the fuel light on. How many petrol stations did you drive past.?

Anyhow it's not the end of the earth...sounds like you have ran it dry, and even after you put the fuel in ... the fuel pump propably wont lift the fuel from the tank.
Sorry I'm not familiar with the 206 D, but most of the Peugeots use similar systems.

What you need to do is find the fuel filter under the bonnet ...
Undo the bleed screw on the side of the housing...
Them prime or pump the button until fuel flows from the bleed screw...
Then tighten up the bleed screw...
Then start as normal....it should be fine.

......and dont let it run low again..!
i have been told by a mechanic that diesels differ in that if you run out, you cannot just fill it up from a can like you can with a petrol car... it just wont work

so good news is, its nothing a garage cant sort
You've just got to prime the fuel pump vipersnest like the last two posts say. It's easy if you know what you are doing, but it'll costs time and money if you have to pay a garage or mechanic. Can your husband or a neighbour/friend/colleague etc do it while you make them a tea?

Does your mother-in-law know about buying cars? You shouldn't buy any car based on the price - you'll just get ripped off for £1000. What matters is whether a car has been looked after, well maintained and regularly serviced. A £500 car that's been looked after will be far more reliable and in better condition than a £2000 car that hasn't been serviced or touched since the owner bought it. Buy a car for £500 with a fresh MoT and it won't have much wrong.

Of course, once you've bought your well-maintained car - you've got to continue maintaining it! Have you looked under the bonnet of your georgeous little car to check it every week and keep it serviced? There are many (dare I say especially women) who buy a perfectly good car but then never touch it except to drive it. The car eventually gives problems - then they blame the car for being "unreliable"!

I hope you get the pump bled soon as the car will start fine then.
