I own a 1993 Peugot 405 and replaced the cam belt at 80,000 Km about 4 years ago. When is it next due for replacement, based on (a) distance and/or (b) time?

80,000 works out at nearly 50,000 miles.

You don't say which 405 it is, is it petrol or diesel?  Diesels are normally replaced at 72,000 miles.  Not sure about petrol, but seeing you had yours replaced at nearly 50,000 it would fall into the 48,000 miles service.  Cambelts are often changed at either 48k, 60k, 72k, or 96k depending on manufacturer.  Easiest way is phone a Peugeot garage and ask, you don't have to book it in!

Peugeot would probably try and convince you to change it on age as well, but stick with the mileage, unless the belt is contaminated by oil or coolant.
