tempremental starting - Renault Scenic Megane [automatic] 1.6
My Renault is being a bit on the choosy side as to when it'll start up. Sometimes it's first time, others after several attempts. A fellow motorist said, "It's your cranshaft sensor, mate" Is this something a diagnostic check will pick up at my local garage. My last visit to Renault cost an arm and a leg. Any way of checking this? Bizarrely it starts better in Neutral [rather than Park] and seems to start if I try it with it in "gear" - nothing happens. Or is that just a fluke?
Thanks

I'm someone else who knows f*** all about Renaults but this thread suggests that the TDC sensor might be the cause of the problem:

Your fellow motorist was probably correct, as suggestions here, the renault forum is the best place to get your answer.
I am a moderater on the Renault Forum, it is well worth joining if you have any Renault,
This thread on the forum will show you how to fix it..............
http://www.renaultfor...ght=megane+tdc+sensor
Renault call the crankshaft sensor "the TDC"
You could fix it without spending a penny, follow the instructions but 90% of the time all you need to do is clean the Sensor, after a few years the sensor pick up gets dirty and starts playing up, all it needs is cleaning, also make sure the connecter is clean.
