Like th Ford Focus C roof, it should really be jig checked. Mechanism is complex. Check microswitches first, tho.
As the owner of two SLKS (currently - long story ....) I can confirm that it could be the microswitch or the hydraulics. If it was the hydraulics it wouldnt work at all ever. More likely to be a computer fault so get down to a Mercedes garage to have it checked out, or you will be caught out before long. Had both things happen to Merc no.1. The newer Merc has a sticky problem and it needs a helping hand to the roof to start it opening. Still love it though.

thanks guys..
took it to local german car specialist..(not merc).. he says it is common problem with this model, he does 2/3 per month in this wheather, all it usually needs is a good grease over.. he did this, charged £60.28, tried it about an hour after the garage had closed, no different... waiting to call them monday morning..
I hope you get this sorted. My newer SLK (320) sticks. I have to give it a bit of a helping hand sometimes and stop and start three or four times while coaxing out. Then bizarrely the next time it retracts without any problem.
