hi, just coming home in the rain and my drivers side wiper stuck in the up position, i got out and freed it but it moves very slowly and gets under the passenger side wiper if it comes up at all. i'm gonna look tomoz at it and was wondering if anyone knew if its just 1 motor that controls the 2 wiper arms or is it 2 motors that control 1 each...

thanx in advance

A bit of web searching suggests that it's a single motor which (on certain models) should have been replaced, free of charge, when the car was serviced. e.g. see here:

There are also plenty of web references which suggest that the linkage has a habit of becoming jammed. e.g. see here:

thanks, i read the link and the car is now 6 years old, would they still honour the recall do you think?? i've never had anything off audi regarding a recall. this is the 1st bit of trouble in 3 years of owning the car really.
Yes, they would .. so long as the car is on the system and they are appy was not ignored in recall or job has already been done once already.
I should think it's a linkage failure problem.

i only bought the car in 2007 and that's when the 1st link on buenchico's answer was put on the web. i will take it to my local dealer tomoz even though i purchased it from a long way away from me and was originally bought from new about 300 miles away. it should be ok to go to local dealer shouldn't it.
Type Your Answer Here...t check recall first with dealer.
Go to local Audi/VW specialist if not.

i just spoke to audi and there isn't any outstanding recall on my a3.
they have said linkage or wiper arm, told me to swap the arms over and see if they work, if not its the linkage. if it works then its the arm.
at least they give me some advice this time...
thanks anyway, i think it'll be the linkage as its the more expensive of the 2.
Question Author
thanks guys, turned out to be a new wiper arm was needed.
all the splines had worn out when i took the arm off.
got it from a breakers yard as audi wanted a stupid price and had to wait 4 days to get 1 in.
