people parking of the corners of roads at night...
in my road and a number of others nearby every night all manner of vans an cars park on the double yellows of the very edges of the roads...so its very hard to get in an out of the road (they are thin roads with only room for one car at a time)
they obviously do it because they are home when the wardens finish and leave in the mornign before they arrive...
why do so many not realise how dangerous and annoying this is?
trying to turn into an already thin road and squeeze tightly between 2 cars, when there is also cars on the top road, making the space to turn even tighter - and at night, its a wonder their cars arent scratched to hell
are there any sort of parking wardens that operate at night...?
cheers

i was involved in a minor scratch incident once for this reason...i was over to one side wainting at the top to allow a car to leave the road and she couldnt get through but continued through anyway instead of letting me manouvre a bit... until she couldnt go any further...literally cms away from my car...then expected me to move ...but i couldnt then because i was wedged in by her and another car behind, and another behind that...she decided to 'huff' it through...and scratched my car - i didnt care as mine was a banger but she was fuming an blaming me - even though i wasnt even moving!
she was saying i was on the wrong side of the road...it was only when i pointed out that actually, she was in the middle - over the white line - and i was on the far left, she changed her attitude..she should have been far right ...but she couldnt because of a bloody big white van parked right on the egde...
it makes me mad because i wonder how many similar dings happen because of this.

I have this prblem at the bottom of my street and recently the offending vehicles have been getting ticketed by the police so they do take notice sometimes!
In fact a few weeks back I actually phoned them as 2 cars were parked half on paths at opposite sides of the road and had only just left enough room to squeeze past in a car. If my hubby had had the van he wouldnt have got up the street and neither would any emergency vehicle. I felt silly phoning them but they sent someone out to deal with it.

Sddsddean states that it's illegal to park within 30 feet of a junction. While that's not strictly true (because there's no specific legislation which makes it so) the '10 metre rule', which is in the Highway Code, is usually used when determining whether a vehicle breaches more general parking legislation (such as 'causing an obstruction). While Sddsddean may never have seen it enforced, I certainly have (with traffic wardens using tape measures in Clacton).
However, when it comes to parking at night, any vehicle parked within a 10m distance of a junction MUST display lights:

Even if general parking matters have been 'de-criminalised' in your area (so that they're dealt with by council staff, issuing civil penalties, rather than by traffic wardens or the police), breaches of the Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989 are still matters for the police. Speak to your local community constable and get him/her to speak to the offending drivers.
