The car which I mentioned in the thread below was removed yesterday by the Met Police. Two Police Officers turned up and were there for about 3 or 4 hours until the removal truck came.

I saw my neighbour today and she mentioned about the car being removed and that she reported it to DVLA by phone last week when the disc ran out. I told her that I reported it this week. We were both wondering why the Officers were there for so long. I thought it was because it may have been stolen but she reckons it could have been used in a robbery.

Does anyone know why the POs would wait so long with such a vehicle? I could have gone outside to ask but I didn't want interfere. Just wondering if anyone on here would know.

if the police attended it must have been for a very good reason they wouldnt normally bother with road tax ..probably 'used in crime' as they call it.

it probably was stolen...but also perhaps the owner had died or something? and the car was being sought as evidence....maybe they went to the owners house and found him/her collapsed...

your thread made me wonder what owuld happen if someone parked in an unfamiliar place, walked off shopping or somehting, then collapsed and died... and no-one knew where their car was - their family could have reported it, but short of driving round and round seraching for it, you would only recover it by these means in the end...

Thats what I thought Chas, as the police were there for so long.

I also did consider what you said before Joko. Reporting it would be the only way of finding a vehicle if something had happened to the owner. I live in a residential area with no shops, but perhaps they may have been visiting someone. Its all conjecture now anyway as the car has gone. I had my chance to find out but missed it.

but surely if it had been involved in a crime they wouldnt have removed it until fingerprints had been taken? or had they already done that?

Don't think anyone came to take fingerprints Gina. The POs didn't touch the vehicle and the removal truck driver just attached the chains to the car. There were quite a few scuffs on the car.

Probably to make sure the owner didn't try to move it before the tow truck arrived.

Maybe the towing firms need to be registered. If none were available in your area they might have had to ring in an unregistered firm. I don't suppose anyone can just stop with a tow truck and take a car..

When they removed a car from near me the police stayed until the tow truck moved off.
Sometimes the owners turn nasty and get violent the police are there to keep the peace.

the vehicle is usually taken to the recovery agents for forensics, a few years ago the company i work for had a police contract for this type of work we had a dedicated .SOCO' workshop for them.

The truck driver had a yellow high-vis jacket on with "Metropolitan" across the back.
