Cigarette Lighters...

I must have used my lighter twice in the 7 years that I have had my car, but now, when I want to use it for a Sat Nav and car charger, its not working. Does anyone know if this is easily fixed and just a fuse or is it bust forever?

Has your fuse come loose in the connecter for your charger or sat nav cable? This happened to mine I thought it was a fault with the car lighter part but found the fuse from the charger had fallen out and was rattling around my glove box. Just a thought. Have you tried the actual lighter itself if it works ?

Iv tested my car charger in another car and it works fine so am assuming the actual lighter is bam-boozled...

Wiggle the adapter around a bit if fuse ok.

Yeah iv wiggled everything and it just wont come on... :( I need my sat nav! Am useless without one as I get lost EVERYWHERE and im planning a big trip on thrusday! ARGH! lol! Do you reckon I could just swing into a garage to see if they can fix it?

get ur owners manual out and have a look to see if the cigar lighter fuse has blown

I would think it's a fuse gone - but the do blow for a reason - an overload - thy don't simply wear out

Does your Sat Nav Work? has there been any work done within the Cig lighter area? if so they may have loosened the connection wires.

It kinda worked when I bought the car charger, but the light was flickering and I had to wiggle it about and it worked... The sat Nav is arriving in 2 days and it NEEEEEEDS to work! lol.... I can see whats gonna happen, iv splashed out on a sat nav and the lighter isnt gonna work at all now and il get all lost in the middle of the country somewhere!!

some cars have cigarette lighters, some have 12 v socket. We found that the tyre pump we used to plug into our cigarette lighter did not work in the new car when we got it unless we sat and held it in place. However our phone and satnav charges work perfectly. It may be that the Sat Nav will not work in a cigarette lighter.

I take it that you installed the lighter in the car yourself? regards you saying, if you wiggle the wire about! that indicates a connection problem Clipclop.

Clipclop - rather than get stressed about getting lost, just buy a roadmap and plan a route, write it down and follow - your own satnav lol

Are you testing it with the ignition on?

With some cars the cigarette lighter will not work with the ignition off.

Had the same problem with my corsa. On the advices from other abers, I found that the whole thing pulled out, and the wire had come out of the back. Fine since reconnection, but don't know if this is the same on your car.
