vivaro power loss cutting out?

MY FRIEND WAS COMING DOWN THE M6 LAST NIGH IN HIS VAUX VIVARO VAN 2004 CDTI AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THERE WAS A SUDDEN POWER LOSS..AND WHEN PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR IT SEEMS IT WOULDNT EVEN REV AT ALL THEN IT CUT OUT.....HE TRIED TO START IT IT WOULD START AFTER A FEW TIMES BUT WHEN TURNING THE KEY IT SEEMS TO TAKE 5-6 SECONDS FOR IT TO KICK IN THEN DRIVE IT A FEW SECONDS THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN NO RECS NO PWER CUT OUT AGAIN...HES OWNED THE VAN FOR 18 MONTHS NOW WITH NO PROBLEMS AT ALL THERES NO EML LIGHT NO SMOKING ETC...THERE IS HOWEVER 2 LIGHTS ON THE DASH THAT HAVE BEEN LIT UP SINCE HES OWNED THE VAN....STOP..AND THE BATTERY LIGHT......BUT THESE WERE THERE LONG AGO BEFORE THIS PROBLEM....IM NO EXPERT ON THESE VANS SO...SOME HELP FOR HIM WOULD BE GOOD?

the red light telling you to stop is there for a reason...
