Anyone up fpor a challenge?

Thought I'd lighten up the News debates today.

I grow the Dorset Naga one of the hottest in the world, crop was a bit poor this year but my local curry house was impressed anyway. They are extremely hot but have a very distinctive flavour.

I would not let anything, "so corrosive they require gloves", pass my lips, sorry. A real wimp out from a curry lover, but that just seems insane.

A restaurant in Edinburgh had a curry eating competition last year, with a few of the contestants taken to hospital, and they were warned they could face legal action if they hold it again.

I would be wary of any meal where you have to wear gloves in order to "enjoy" it :)

I would be considered a wimp when it comes to spices I guess. I still remember attending a curry house many years ago with my brother who admitted to being a fan of hot curries. He ordered a fal, I ordered my usual Korai. He spent most of the meal with tears leaking from his eyes, huffing and puffing and gulping large quantities of lager- I spent mine eating my meal with great enjoyment and no need for massive quantities of lager! :)

I watched a guy do that challenge on Gino and Mel some months back.
The gloves are to stop you touching your eyes afterwards I would've thought.

I can never understand what is so attractive about having a curry - for example - that is so hot that all you experience is the heat in your mouth ; and you cannot/barely taste the actual food .

Can someone please explain ?

@Bazile - the pleasure comes from the fact that the 'heat' does not actually damage your mouth - it is possible to enjoy this feeling, for instance quite often my mouth goes numb rather than feeling pain, it's rather nice.

I take your point about not being able to taste the food properly though but you can still taste the difference between lamb and chicken for example and the meat and whatever else adds texture.
