Unless you're crawling through central London traffic most of the time, 57 miles is definitely poor.
For comparison, I drive an M-reg Proton 1.3, with about 145K on the clock. It hasn't had a service since I bought it 5 years (and 65K) ago. So, I can hardly expect maximum fuel efficiency out of it! Even so, with a mix of town and dual carriageway driving, a tenner still takes me at least 90 miles.
The 'lumpiness' suggests a problem under the bonnet but, even before looking into that, please check your tyre pressures. Poorly-inflated tyres can reduce your fuel efficiency by at least 10%.
I don't claim to know much about car engines. However, experience has taught me that a blocked air filter can dramatically affect the efficiency of an engine (and lead to some 'lumpiness'). Even though you say that your car is up to date with its servicing, it might be worth checking it out. There are two reasons for this: Firstly, some garages claim to have changed filters when they haven't. Secondly, even if the filter is fairly new, external factors can cause it to become blocked. (e.g. I had an old Fiesta with a slight oil leak. The oil would soak into the air filter, causing it to become blocked).
Checking (and, if necessary, replacing) an air filter is a quick and inexpensive job, so start there.
Poor fuel economy (particularly as bad as you're experiencing) is usually down to an incorrect mix of air and petrol. If it's not the air filter causing the problem, you might need to get the timing checked.
May I suggest that you post a fresh question regarding your problem? Otherwise, those with greater knowledge than me might not spot that you need help.
