2000 Escort Van engine stays on even with ignition off

I've got a 2000 X Reg Escort 1.8 TD Van. Recently the engine stays running after the ignition is turned off. Any ideas?

possibly stop solenoid on the fuel pump

There was a full moon on Wednesday.

Perhaps a devil has entered the engine and worked some devil magic into the electrics.

Failing that it could just be a faulty ignition switch.

Its diesel !!...no electrics....

The stop solenoid works by staying open when there is power going to it, when the ignition is turned off it closes shutting of the fuel, unless its faulty and sticks open then the engine will continue to run...common problem.

How are the light's powered ?
What's that square thing with two wires ? - Battery isnt it !
How does the ignition switch work ?
What does the alternator actually do ?

It's a Escort Van not a horse and trap, of course it's got electrics !

Read the post, its an engine running on problem, ever heard of compression ignition ?
Apart from starting it there is no further requirement of the electrical curcuit for the engine to run...its all mechanical

Or perhaps we should get an excorcist to remove the devil ?

probably the ignition barrell thats shagged, common problem on most older fords, bags of s h i t

Had that problem in 54 plate VW LT35.
Was fault from engine management chip.
Because I'd put a single filament bulb in the brake light!!
