As such, you will do no damage starting the engine before the light goes out, but if the glowplugs are staying on a lot longer than they should, they will burn out eventually and may not work when you need them. You need to get it checked out to see if it is just a fault with the light (which isn't a problem) or if the plugs are really staying on that long (which could be a problem).

Dean, thankyou...I will get em checked out are they megga expensive to replace. It starts lovely so I think they are ok,
They are not too expensive (hopefully no more than 10 ea), but are often a sod to get out due to access around pipework etc! Never had an Iveco, so don't know what they are like. To be honest, with modern engines, you hardly ever need glow plugs, but its nice to know you've got them in case of a cold snap.
Since the weather has cooloed down my glow plugs are staying on twice as long as they used to, and it always starts first time.
