Truck drivers carrying licences
4 Answers
Various people have told me that truck drivers legally have to carry their driving licence with them on duty, but I can't find anything to back this up.
Does anyone have any view on this?

Certainly I never carry my licence...and I've been driving trucks for 20 odd years. I've been stopped at roadside checks and the odd accident (not my fault, honest!) and have never had a problem. Road side checks do it all via 'a database' now and Police will give you a 7 day notice to 'produce'.
Thanks for that. I actually do always carry my licence when truck driving, though not necessarily car driving.
There is discussion at my place of work whether it is required.
I get the impression that there is no difference for truck drivers than anybody else - it is required but not enforced. A producer is issued if you are found not to have it.
(unless someone else knows better?)
Like you sddsddean, I have been glad of it when involved in an accident that wasn't my fault. Producing it to a PC immediately saves a lot of hassle.
