Caravans? Oh my God, that invention made by man that involves towing a metal shed behind a car to go to a boring place like Skegness and then park next to another metal shed. AND **** off all other motorists on the way, stop in a lay-by to have a cup of tea and let out a barking dog to have a ****!
I live in Lincolnshire and have a theory that caravans breed in Nottinghamshire ;-)

You could be right, RT. We keep ours in Notts and there are hundreds of them around. I used to think exactly the same as you until we figured out it's actually a cheap way of getting a holiday (we don't do Skeggy though - too many chizzets there).

Rimoco, as for the book, I've a quick look on Amazon, but without any other details to go on it's like looking for a porch awning in Nottinghamshire.

You might be interested in A Short History of Caravans in the UK written by the lovely Richard Hammond. I have a copy. It's not so much a history as tongue-in-cheek look at the caravan world and its origins.
