difficult to start when cold, glo plugs ok, just had the ecu timing done but the engine runs lick a bag of bones when finally started with lots of exhaust . the ecu warning light comes on after a few minutes putting it into default mode . when this happens exhaust clears and engine seems to run better.

Are you 100% sure that the glow plugs are perfect? It only takes one to cause the bad starting, also check the connectors to the glow plug tops! are the connection Tight / clean?
