Anyone know if your common run-of-the-mill double deckers (and singles) are fitted with differential locks? (diff-locks for short!!)

Dif Locks are usually only put on vehicles that are going to encounter slippery conditions for the majority of their working life due to cost and added complexity. A better alternative in the current weather would be to make the fitting of winter tyres compulsory when the temperature is expected to be below 5 degrees centigrade for a prolonged period. Standard tyres are built to last, the downside of this is that the compounds used become hard at low temperatures causing the tyre to be less effective. Winter tyres are made of different compounds, so stay flexible and give greater grip in cold conditions, they are not just for use in snow as most people think.
The difference in price is not too bad, but the extra costs involved in changing tyres from summer tyres to winter tyres and back again would be high.
Lets say your bus garage has 200 buses you also need undercover storage space for 1200 tyres plus a few extra as spares. Not cheap.
Another little known fact is that many bus garages do not own any tyres at all! They are rented and they pay for only the tread used. The suppliers are responsible for replacing and repairing them.
I agree that winter tyres would be better, but simple economics would rule against there use.
