hi might be buying ford focus 1.4cl 1998reg 53000miles just seeing if anyone can tell me if it is a good car are the fors and againsts

Although the Golf is better built, the Focus is the class leader for driving dynamics. It really is good to drive, and the cl is quite well equipped too. Its a bit of a slug, boasting just 75BHP, for a fairly glacial 0-60 of about 14 seconds, but it handles and rides very well. The car has a four star NCAP safety rating which is very good in the class too. I guess the main down side to them is that just about every second car you see on the road is a Focus! Oh, and the saloon model was a sales disaster.

The ford focus is a great car, but id try and go for the 1.6 engine, the 1.4 is vey sluggish. Id say the 1.6 is a much better choice engine wise. The ford focus in generally is a very good car. I used to be lucky enough to own an RS.. awesome car!
