Recently took my father in laws city rover for an mot,it failed on badly leaking front shocks, its an 04 plate, with only 20,000 miles on the clock, but cannot source or find any new ones to replace them, trawled the net, phoned countless motor spares etc,the guy at the mot place said you wont get a pair, rare as hens teeth,i no about these cars and would not touch one meself, told him 6 years ago not to buy it,but he is stuck with it,any help appreciated,ps if cant get parts, whats the best price do you think its worth? or best to scrap it?.................
cheers,
Andy.....

Have you tried your local breaker's yard? That's where I used to get parts for my old Nissan.
I think the CityRovers were built in India, and just badged as Rovers.
Question Author
yeah tried breakers yard nothing in there, thanks anyway.

Personally I wouldn't go near one.
Question Author
i could think off something else they should be badged as..............and it dont begin with R,
I would have thought a good back street mechanic should be able to find a similar one from a different make, and get it to fit.
You could try Breakeryard.com

cheers for that, have logged on and sent request, just got to wait for rickshaw to get her from india, lol,
thanks again,
Andy.
Hi Bembo, I would contact the car makers " Customers Services" give your Chassis No, the year of the car, the mileage, & explain that these shocks should have lasted more than the mileage you have stated, I have done this myself I claimed for a set + the cost of replacement + labour.
You will find the Cars info on your V5 car Log Book.
good idea TWR - will it work?
Tony, for a car of that age O4 & 20000 on the clock the shocks should have lasted a good deal of miles after the miles stated, nowadays a lot of damage is caused by these bloody speed ramps, "Yes" I know you should slow down ( I do) but there are many that are off set to the car's wheels & if a car approaches you from the opposite direction you either slow down or stop, the majority of suspension damage eg/ broken front springs are caused by these stupid blood things.
Question Author
Thank you all for help, also TWR, now what you mean, but who do i contact? Rover gone havent they, have been quoted £90,for a second hand pair, plus cost off fitting £100, dont no what to do,as its not my car, father in laws (pensioner),
Hi, check out the Rover site after sales uk, if possible & this can only be done with the shocks off the car, on the tube of the shocker there will be a ID No/ & the makers ID, If poss get all the info you need & contact the above site via Google.
Type in MG Rover, contact No, 0845 303 6464 Longbridge B/Ham, B31 2BQ. Copy all your correspondence
TWR - agree about mileage - but age has to be taken into consideration
