stabilisers...when were they invented?

I don't know about that, but they certainly had them in 1954 when I was learning to ride my first bike.

my three wheeled trike didn't need them, but i rapidly progressed to the two wheeled type with stabilisers, and must admit that i felt proud age 5 or so, when the stabilisers were no longer needed.

LOL, I've just realised that this post is in Motoring. I could have done with the stabilisers when I started learning to drive!

i don't know whether this is what you are referring to but wiki says

A sway bar or anti-roll bar forms part of an automobile suspension. It connects opposite (left/right) wheels together through short lever arms linked by a torsion spring. A sway bar increases the suspension's roll stiffness—its resistance to roll in turns, independent of its spring rate in the vertical direction. The first stabilizer bar patent was awarded to the Canadian S. L. C. Coleman of Fredericton, New Brunswick on April 22, 1919

I'm talking about stabilisers as extra wheels on my bike - and the second post suggesting I could have done with them when I was wobbilily learning to drive a car.....

sorry, i was joshing about the stabilisers on bikes, i assumed joko meant car.

I really didn't think of the car option - I remember them well, way back when they were referred to as outriders - when I had them on my bike, my mother insisted that ty were called backspiders!

you were part of the gang once the stabilisers came off, before that you were still a little kid, aren't children wonderful.
